I thought this one was was really neat... both plants were growing in the same hanging basket. Passiflora colinvauxii had a bloom open up inside Passiflora 'Betty Myles Young'. There was a greenish/white spider who stayed on this for a few days. It was camera shy so I never could get a good close up of it....
I've had Passiflora 'Sunburst' for almost four years.... it finally decided to bloom!!! For all but about two months, I had the plant at work and kept it above our records cabinet. It got indirect sunlight and the whole room is pretty bright. It didn't grow much at all. Finally, I decided to re-pot it, take it home and bring it outside, and miracle-grow it. Out-of-the-blue, one day, I noticed a new stem seemed to grow over an inch a day. I watched and watched, amazed at the quick growth,... and then even happier when I noticed some buds! Wow! The buds came out on 8/20/09 and actually bloomed two flowers on 9/18/09. Seems like passion flowers are a practice in patience.
I had to run home for a second during lunch and just happened to glance outside on my deck where I have many of the flowers. This beautiful orange blossom immediately caught my eye! I grabbed the pot and put it in the car to take it back to work and show it off. The stink was outrageous!!! I've never …
There was a nice surprise waiting for me when I went into the office this morning.... Passiflora 'Marian' had two beautiful blooms on it! It has the most "character" of any of the ones I've seen bloom. Its petals alternate in color... every other one is purplish and then the other whiteish (is that a word?). Not many people have this plant, yet.... it is a hybrid of Mr. Jim Nevers. He says it is a hybrid of Passiflora 'Pure Vida Purple' and Passiflora 'Miersii'.
My photos are dissapointing... I assume because I took them inside under unflattering light. I'll work on getting better ones!
My digital "paintings" always appear darker and not as vibrant as the actual plant... but I'm trying to replicate the older plant "illustration" art and they were always faded.
Kind of a neat day for my flowers! I've been slowly taking plants to work to overwinter them...
Over the past few years, I've put pots of passion flowers on top of our file cabinet where we have our patient's records. It's a bright room and has a normal "double" window right beside it. I've been surprised how well they usually do there. To be more specific.... they at least "live". There isn't much growth (probably because I had them in small pots and didn't fertilize them at all for a couple of years) and no flowers. I'm just happy to not have killed them. I only had about five different ones. Now, I'm up to ~73 plants! So, .... I'm learning how to better take care of them and hopefully have them thrive and maybe even bloom during the winter!!!
...but, anyway.... that is where I will have many of my plants in the next couple of weeks. Two of the ones I have already brought has bloomed! Passiflora 'Raspberry Str…
Passiflora 'Elizabeth' is gorgeous! I love the dark center and frilly fringe.... It never really opened up as much as I thought it would... maybe that's what it does...we'll see. Passiflora 'Crismson Tears' is the prettiest pink! I had two blooms at the same time!
Yesterday, Passiflora 'Lambiekins' bloomed for the first time....
Passiflora 'Crimson tears' and Passiflora 'Elizabeth' will probalby be blooming tomorrow! They both have buds almost opened, this evening!Yesterday, I spent several hours repotting all of my passion flowers. I have them seperated into categories of where they will over-winter.... either at my home, at work, or at Mom's in her sun room! They'll be babied no matter where they go.
The backside of a passion flower is almost as interesting as the front... each flower is just as different on the back as the front. Since I don't have any new ones blooming,.... I thought I'd take photos in a different perspective! This is the P. sanquinolenta since I moved her (after the big "fall")....
I took a nap yesterday and when I woke up and went outside, I noticed one of the "clothes-line" I had hung several baskets of my flowers on had broken... I had added a few more baskets the day before so I guess it was too much weight. All the baskets were lying on the ground and some of the newly planted flowers were dangling from the clothes line.... out of the dirt, hanging in mid-air.
I knew I was going to re-pot most of the passon flowers before winter when it was time to bring them inside... just got a head start on it, now! Instead of hanging, most of them are now in pots on my deck.... luckily, I didn't see any broken stems or lost buds!
Not much is blooming right now..... so I'm just posting some pretty photos. These two are of Passiflora x allaridii. Close-ups are beautiful!
...and one of my digital "paintings" of Passiflora 'Raspberry Strudel'. I love the colors of her and hoped to capture it in the drawing.
Now, all three of my Passiflora 'Pure Vida' have bloomed (P. 'Pure Vida Purple' and P. 'Pure Vida #7 have bloomed previousily)..... today is the first bloom for the regular P. 'Pure Vida'. To be honest, I would have to see them blooming at the same time to see the differences.... the purple one is darker and, well, more purple! The other two, I can't tell differences. I have P. "Pure Vida #4' hopefully on its way to me.... Passiflora 'Raspberry Strudel' has bloomed today for only the second time. There are many, many buds on it so I look forward to seeing them all!
Passiflora collinvauxii is blooming some more..... This one is Passiflora 'Blue eyed Susan'.... I liked the sky in the background! ...and Passiflora 'Incense'....
I decided to try to at least root cuttings in water. It's the quickest and easiest way.... of, course, I don't know how much luck I'll have. The glasses and greenery looks pretty in the window and I like how I can monitor the progress easily this way. Can't hurt!
I have anxiousily been waiting for P. arida to bloom. It has the fuzziest leaves and beautiful greenery all over!
This plant was supposed to be P. membranacea but I've learned it's not! Sometimes you never know what you're going to get when you order.... which makes it kind of fun, too! This plant ended up being (we're pretty sure) P. morifolia.... it's growing like crazy and has tons of blooms!
P. pure vida #7 is the prettiest color! She has many buds waiting to bloom.... P. incense bloomed today for the first time. I thought it had been blooming already, but that was actually P. 'Blue-eyed Susan'. I didn't look at the tag and just went on memory. They both bloomed today so I could see the differences!
This one is P. 'Blue-eyed Susan'.... ....and this one is P. 'incense'
This one is Passiflora 'Monika Fisher'... it's a gorgeous deep purple!
I have been waiting for three years for my Passiflora 'Sunburst' to bud... I noticed a new stem growing last week and now that stem is over a foot long and has 4 buds on it!!!! Talk about determined...
Passiflora 'Pure Vida Purple' is such a pretty color! It has several buds waiting to bloom for me...
So far, this is my favorite "painting" of passion flowers. I love the red and the horizontal design. It was enjoyable making this one... if only I could remember how I did it!
I have three different 'Pure Vidas'... ('Pure Vida', 'Pure Vida Purple', and 'Pure Vida #7') all of them are budding right now. This one blommed after I left this morning. I came home from work and found her happily blooming amongst many other buds! The 'Pure Vida' will probably bloom the end of the week!
Passion flowers that are newly budded: 'Piresii', 'Marian', 'Jeanette', 'Sanquinolenta', 'Elizabeth', 'Crimson Tears', and 'Lambekins'! It amazes me that the buds seem to come from nowhere!
